Slack integration
Send automated Slack messages, alerts, and notifications to channels and DMs — powered by data from any app, database, or workflow.
What the Slack integration does
Slack is where teams talk, coordinate, and make decisions. The OctaviaFlow Slack integration turns those conversations into the last mile of your automations — so the right message reaches the right channel or person the moment something happens in your data.
Once you connect Slack, add a Slack step to any workflow and OctaviaFlow posts on your behalf as a dedicated bot. Pull in live values from any previous step — a new lead, a failed job, a daily revenue figure — and send a formatted message to a channel or a direct message to a teammate. No scripts, no webhooks to maintain.
Because Slack is a step inside a workflow, the message can be triggered by anything OctaviaFlow watches: a schedule, an inbound webhook, a database change, or an event from another connected app. Slack is how the outcome gets communicated; your data decides when.
What you can do
Post to any channel
Send messages to public or private channels. OctaviaFlow's bot joins public channels automatically; for private channels, invite the bot once and it can post from then on.
Direct-message people
Deliver a personal notification straight to a teammate's DMs — approvals, task hand-offs, or an alert only they need to see — sent as your OctaviaFlow bot.
Rich, formatted messages
Go beyond plain text with Block Kit blocks and attachments: headers, sections, dividers, context lines, and links that render cleanly and are easy to scan.
Live data from any step
Drop values from earlier workflow steps into the message with data references — record fields, computed totals, error details, or AI-generated summaries — resolved at run time.
Triggered by your stack
Fire the message from any trigger OctaviaFlow supports — schedules, webhooks, database change-data-capture, or events from another connected app — so notifications are always timely.
Works across workspaces
Connect each Slack workspace with its own secure OAuth install. Tokens are stored encrypted and scoped to exactly the permissions the integration needs.
How it works in Slack
- 1
Connect Slack
From Connectors, choose Slack and authorize with one click. OctaviaFlow uses Slack's standard OAuth flow and installs a bot into your workspace — no tokens to copy or paste.
- 2
Add a Slack step
In the flow editor, drop a Slack message action anywhere in your workflow — after a database read, an AI step, a condition, or a loop.
- 3
Compose with your data
Write the message and insert data references from any previous step. Choose plain text or build a formatted layout with blocks.
- 4
Pick a destination
Send to a channel or as a direct message to a specific user. Mix and match across steps — an alert to #ops and a DM to the on-call engineer.
- 5
Run it
Test the workflow and watch the message post as your bot. Once it's live, every trigger delivers the notification automatically.
Popular Slack automations
New-lead alerts to sales
When a high-value lead lands in your CRM or form, post an enriched summary to #sales and DM the owning rep so no one has to watch a dashboard.
Pipeline & error alerts
Notify #ops the instant a job fails, a sync falls behind, or a threshold is crossed — with the error detail inline so the team can act immediately.
Daily and weekly digests
Batch a scheduled summary — revenue, signups, support volume — into a single tidy message instead of a stream of noisy pings.
Approvals & hand-offs
Route an approval request or task hand-off to the right person's DMs the moment a record reaches a given state.
Customer & order events
Announce new signups, big orders, or churn-risk signals to the team channel that cares, straight from your database or app events.
AI-written updates
Have an OctaviaFlow AI step draft a plain-language summary of what changed, then post it to Slack so humans get the story, not the raw rows.
Slack integration FAQ
Does OctaviaFlow post to Slack as me or as a bot?
As a dedicated OctaviaFlow bot installed in your workspace — never impersonating a person. Messages are clearly attributed to the app, so it's always obvious where a notification came from.
Can it send direct messages, not just channel posts?
Yes. A Slack step can post to a public or private channel, or send a direct message to a specific user — as the bot.
Do I need a Slack admin to approve the app?
Connecting uses Slack's standard OAuth install. Depending on your workspace's app-approval settings, a Slack admin may need to approve the app once. To post in a private channel, invite the bot to that channel.
Can I use buttons, headers, and other formatting?
Yes. Messages support Block Kit blocks and attachments, so you can build formatted layouts with headers, sections, dividers, context, and links.
Can a Slack message trigger a workflow?
The Slack integration is built for sending. Workflows are triggered by your data sources — schedules, webhooks, database changes, or events from other connected apps — and Slack is how the outcome is delivered. If you need Slack-initiated triggers, let us know via the request form.
Is it secure? Where does my Slack data go?
The integration authorizes with OAuth and requests only the permissions it needs. Access tokens are stored encrypted, and OctaviaFlow doesn't back up or export your Slack message history. See our privacy policy for details.
